Release Your Expectations
Humans can be so one-dimensional in their thinking. When we see a person who has all the
money or fame that they desire, we find it easy to believe that they are blessed. When we see an average person lose anything that they consider significant to them, like a mate or job, they are often declared forsaken by God! Is life this cut and dry? Not hardly. Sure we all want the good things that life has to offer. But to define the quality of a person's life by what Olodumare or the Orisa has given them in terms of physical comforts is a mistake. Ironically, what we initially see as setbacks or obstacles can really turn out to be blessings.
We all possess a complex web of predetermined life lessons and major experiences that are collectively called our destiny. Even though we fine tune our lives through spiritual practice and making choices on a daily basis, we are subject to those original plans set in motion for us by God. When those plans seem to lack what we consider the "good stuff" we can lose faith in life or the possibility for good. But, we do not see the total picture. Our destiny is a blur to us. Little do we know that losing our job will make way for a better one and leaving our lover will leave us available for our true soul mate. Change, stress- these are essential parts of life that make us want to hold on for dear life. What we really need to do is let go and allow life to lead.
It's hard to swallow that everyday can't be perfect, according to our standards. We wonder why we can't have the business success of others or the good looks or charm. Realistically God gave each us our own path to walk. And understanding that path is what brings us happiness, not coveting the journey of others. Trying to live the lifestyle of another wouldn't bring us happiness anyway!
In the Orisa tradition, we are taught to cultivate a relationship with our Destiny or Ori. We worship it as our Spiritual Intuition and Memory. It is our link to God. When you can get to the point where the connection is clear and strong, we stop wanting what is not ours and walking paths that were not meant for us. This kind of release allow you let the bankers be bankers and the movie stars be movie stars. You have no envy, because you are learning what road was laid out for you. You can release. The burden of figuring everything out is lifted. You just listen to your Ori give you the plan, then you execute it. You are not alone or overwhelmed. You are not overtaxed or clueless. Most importantly, you stop having expectations.
Expectations are are essential parts of life that make us want to hold on for dear life. What we really need to do is let go and allow life to lead.
Expectations are a dangerous thing. You start by making an assumption. Life is good if I have _____. I am only successful if I have ______. If _____ happens everything is ok. When we set up these kind of conditions we are blocking our predestined blessings. We are assuming that we know everything. And what happens when we assume? Expectations can lead to heartache. I was once soothed by a hindu scripture that read "A person is only capable of earning the wealth allotted to him in Heaven." It led me to understand that whatever is mine by God's design is coming in due time. No man will keep me from this this great gift... I can finally relax.
