inner turmoil
is complicated
by no intimacy with Ketu or Oyo
although these are my Old Homes.

such that christianity and islam
are objectionable
but my Mother’s Ifa
still feels awkward and eccentric.

yet the freedom index must extend
past alien messiahs
and embrace long forgotten relationships with our traditional Spirits
that have been lost at sea, forever in middle passage.

let it be breathed in prana
a victory
that washes our blk hands of captor’s blood
and the developed traditions of betrayal
and the forgotten vows we took
“we will be free”
“we will fight ’til death”
“we will be free”
to remember what (and who) brought us here.

a fierce war with self and custom
upbringing and duty
for the colonized mind

don’t we all want to go home?
