Are you endorsing each of the Temples above?
No. Use all the resources on this site to help you determine which temple is best for you. Don’t let us or anyone else decide for you! This is a directory, not a “friends’ list”.
I am looking for a priest so I can get a reading and/or join a community, what do I do with this directory?
Call or send a letter to the temple closest to you. Be sure to tell them you heard about their temple from Roots and Rooted!
Is there a Temple in my Area?
Remember, this is not an exhaustive list. There are lots more temples! If there is no listing above for your area, please contact the next temple that is closest to you before e-mailing us for help. Willingness to travel can’t be stressed enough.
I am a little scared, how will I be treated?
Legitimate priests should be down-to-earth, professional and honest. They should tell you if they operate a temple, or just provide case-by-case spiritual services. Feel free to ask who initiated them, in what year and to what Deity and what their relationship is to other Priests and spiritual communities.
Do I have to pay for spiritual services and if so, why?
Spiritual services usually require supplies and time. The person that requests the services must pay for their own supplies. Priestly work also takes up a lot of time; so many Priests collect fees to supplant their income and to care for the Deity that aids them. A Priest should tell you whether the Deity they serve requires them to charge a specific price or whether some services are to given without charge. If you are still having trouble understanding why you must pay, remember: The person that takes and never gives is a thief.
How do I pick a reputable Priest?
A Priest should be a humble yet confident, emotionally stable, and likeable person. A good Priest is loved not feared and has good conflict resolution and communication skills. It is natural reaction to treat a good Priest as an elder because they deserve it, not demand it. A good Priest is a representative of Afrikan culture and understands the purpose of tradition and legacy. A good Priest spends considerable time fellowshipping with their Deity and Ancestors. Good Priests speaks the truth, study constantly and look for solutions that represent the greatest good for ALL, not just you or them selves. A good Priest never asks you lie, cheat or steal to get what you “perceive” you need. A good Priest is not addicted to anything but spiritual worship. Good Priests speak on behalf of the Ancestors and their Deity, not on behalf of themselves or their ego…or their emotions. A good Priest answers your questions directly. A good Priest helps you set goals to improve yourself and then shows you how to complete those goals. A good Priest is always learning. But the ideal Priest for you may not be the ideal Priest for others. Always remember this.
